True Games and Petroglyph Announce Mytheon 9:20 PM EST by Alex True Games and Petroglyph Games, the creators of Universe at War and Star Wars: Empire at War, just announced their upcoming online micro-transaction MMOG, Mytheon: ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., (December 2, 2008) - True Games Interactive, an international multi-player online game publisher, in conjunction with renowned game developer, Petroglyph, today announced their new online action strategy game, Mytheon. Developed by the team best known for the award winning Star Wars: Empire At War and Universe at War real-time strategy games, Mytheon is Petroglyph's first online micro-transaction game. Several members of this prestigious developer also played a key role in creating the original Command and Conquer series while at Westwood Studios. Mytheon will launch in Fall 2009. For more information, and to register for news updates on the game, visit www.Mytheongame.com. As its publishers put it, Mythos "uniquely combines the best elements of RTS and Action/RPG genres with a heavy emphasis on collectability." The game features a gripping storyline based in Greek, Roman, Norse, and Egyptian mythology as you fight for the end of the reign of the gods on earth and the beginning of the reign of men. Play as one of three unique classes while casting spells, collecting items, and ultimately rise to the challenge to gain the freedom of all of mankind from the zealous rule of the gods. In addition to its singleplayer, the game features group and PvP modes to bring it "infinite replayability." Look for it Q3 2009. I must say this is the first RTS that's caught my eye in quite a while. Be sure to check out the site for more information and artwork.

Midway Games Sold for $100,000 6:50 PM EST by Alex Earlier today, Sumner Redstone, a majority investor in Midway Games, the studio behind Mortal Kombat and Spy Hunter, and its parent company, National Amusements, sold all his 87.2% of Midway stocks to private investor Mark Thomas. Redstone's 80.3 million shares were sold for $100,000, approximately .0012 cents a share. Redstone sold the company to help pay off National Amusement's $1.6 billion dollars of debt, $800 million of which is due December 19th. Along with the company, Thomas also assumed its "$70 million of senior secured and unsecured debt." Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan, estimates that Redstone lost $600 million on his investments in Midway Games.
Thomas does not have any sort of background in the video game industry and its unclear what this means for Midway Games, at the current time.
